{Happy Birthday, Cheryl!} - Clay Matthews

Soooo ... this group is fantastic. When I first got the call to photograph this event. A birthday party. I was all "let me check the date and time." Then things got real. 12-14 hour birthday party? With a crazy fun crowd? What is this about, now. CLAY MATTHEWS is going to be there? Okay - let me clear my calendar quick.

The surprise part of the event was the whole day, like every hour or so there was something new. Ms. Cheryl thought she was coming to an investors meeting at a hotel. Surprise! All of a sudden all of her closest friends and family stand up and greet her. Then we piled into a bus to an undisclosed location for lunch. Surprise! We're at the top of the Fluno Center, for a catered lunch! BEAUTIFUL views of Madison + amazing food. We pile back into the bus. Surprise! A beautiful heart felt movie showcasing Cheryl's life with commentary by her husband and everyone who loves her. Then Fireball happens. Surprise! A competitive game of Cheryl Jepordy. Driving 2+ hours? Surprise! Lambeau Field! Surprise! Private Tour. Surprise! Dinner in a private box at Lambeau Field. SURPRISE! CLAY MATTHEWS. Seriously - ridiculously awesome, every part.

I think my favorite was that no one knew what was going on. Cheryl's husband, Mark, had it all set up - I knew some basic info - but everything unfolded beautifully as a surprise for all involved. A couple hours with Clay Matthews later - and everyone was back on the bus and ready to party back to Madison. Did someone say Fireball + jello shots? Started out strangers - ended the night as good friends. xo
