{Collect moments, not things.}
The time change had us all up by about 4am every morning. It wasn't as bad as you'd think - we had fantastic company with the kids ... and we eventually DID figure out the coffee maker! We enjoyed a leisurely morning playing with the kids before heading to the Heard Museum. The Heard Museum was fantastic - it hits my favorite subject: art and Kenn's favorite subject: history. I loved the children's section they had - lots of craft making. It was so nice to have Noah reading everything for us, too. I learned a lot. We loved the modern and traditional southwest tribe collaborations and the glass + rock art made from two different tribes collaborating to create beautiful work. Super amazing stuff. The kids loved the Katsina Doll collections. They had a Katsina Doll vendor sale that day. Beautiful authentic Katsina Dolls were being sold by artists in the court yard. We enjoyed awesome percussion music, and singing as we walked around admiring the artwork of the local artists. We ended up finding a Katsina Doll piece - an Owl Spirit which was knows to bring wisdom, and lead the pack into wise choices, and realistic decision making. We bought that one and it is now hanging in our "artifact" hallway in our home. It is beautiful.
After a morning of exploring the museum, we drove to South Mountain to visit my Aunt and Uncle. They greeted us with open arms -- and showed the kids how they had painted their names on the walls in anticipation of their arrival! Even though they were remodeling their home, I am so happy we were able to connect. We spent the afternoon outside enjoying their beautiful HEATED pool and their lovely back patio area. They grilled for us on their beautiful built in grill - and the food was amazing. (I have to get that chicken recipe from you, Mary!) They let the kids pick out which glasses they wanted to drink juice from - and the kids picked plastic wine glasses (naturally.) The kids were in heaven in the pool. My Aunt Mary taught the boys to swim without floatie's and how to have a "tea party" under water. There was lots of jumping into the water off of the big boulder rocks that surrounded the pool. So much fun. By the end of the day - my Uncle had somehow hypnotized our typically socially judgmental daughter and she was smiling and giggling and snuggling with everyone. Before we left they let the boys pick out a cacti in front of their house to name, "The Ogunsola's." The kids were FAST asleep in the car on the ride back to our AirBnB. Definitely a trip highlight!
